Your plants need to adapt and must be gradually introduced to changes in temperature or condition. Put the plants outside in the sun for one to two hours in the beginning. Slowly, day after day, you can leave your plants outside for a little longer. At week’s end, the plants should be welcoming of their new home.

Snails can be sprayed away with a mixture of ammonia and water. Your valuable plants will not be hurt by the ammonia. In fact, it converts to helpful nitrogen later. It does kill snails in your garden, which will stop them from damaging your beds. Daily use is recommended for best results.

Do not mow your lawn too short. If you leave a bit more height, the grass roots will get deeper, making your lawn stronger. Short grass leads to more shallow roots and will result in more brown, dried-out patches.

Make new plants through root cuttings. If possible, cut dormant roots during the winter months. Choose the thickest roots that have a good length and, using a sharp knife, remove them from the plant. Cut each root into pieces that are two inches in length. Place these cuttings on the surface of a seed tray that you have filled with grit and peat moss and water thoroughly. Cover thinly with grit and peat. Wait a month after you put it in a colder place and you’ll get new seedlings. Plant these seedlings into their own little pots until they’re large enough to be planted in the ground.

It is best to aerate and dry your plants daily. Many diseases, as well as most parasites, prefer moisture. Fungi is a common problem in the world of plants. It is possible to get rid of fungi after it appears with anti-fungal sprays, but it’s better to spray at-risk areas before fungi appear.

If your garden includes vegetables, make sure you plant them in a location whether they are exposed to sunlight for a minimum of six hours each day. Most vegetables that can be grown need that much sun to grow well and quickly. Some flowers are especially sun-loving as well.

There are several annuals that thrive during the cooler months. Prune these plants if they get too leggy, and plants will look their best. In just a few weeks, they will bloom prettily once again, contrasting the browns of usual winter foliage. Consider annuals such as petunias, snapdragons or dianthus.

When winter arrives, transfer a few plants into the house for safe storage during the cold weather. It’s a good idea to save any expensive plants or those that will thrive in indoor heat. Dig carefully around their roots and place them into a pot.

Climbing plants and vines are great for covering fences and wall structures. Climbing plants can cover a wall after one growing season only. They also have been known to grow through existing trees or shrubs, or can be easily taught to cover any size arbor. Some need to be tied to a support, whereas certain climbers attach themselves to a surface with tendrils or twining stems. Reliable varieties include wisteria, honeysuckle, climbing roses, clematis, and jasmine.

Try planting some heather to draw beautiful insects to your yard. Heather is great for getting bees to stop by at the beginning of spring, as heather plants have nectar available early in the season. It is common to find all types of insects inside of an undisturbed heather bed. Keeping this is mind, you need to wear gloves when you prune your heather!
